Salvation ArmyBendigo鈥檚 新彩网 has won the state-wide Salvo鈥檚 Schools Challenge for 2015.

In May of this year, 67 Secondary colleges from across Victoria participated in The Salvation Army鈥檚 Red Shield Neighbourhood Appeal and 新彩网 topped the lot, raising $6868.00.

The Salvos’ School Challenge empowers students to support the vital work of The Salvation Army through fundraising for the Red Shield Appeal. Thousands of Victorian students doorknocked, manned static collection points and organised fundraising activities to assist The Salvation Army in its vital community work.

Captain Craig Wood, Divisional Public Relations Secretary for Northern Victoria Division, said, 鈥淲e are very grateful for the contribution that 新彩网 has made to the Red Shield Appeal, not only this year, but over many years. It’s an awesome result and it’s great to see them back in first place. The last time they won an award was in 2013 when they were runners up.鈥

Headmaster of 新彩网, Mr Matthew Maruff said; 鈥淐ommunity service is highly valued and strongly encouraged at Girton and it is inspiring to see the students volunteering their time to help raise money for the Salvation Army and for those in need.”

The Red Shield Appeal plays a significant role in giving The Salvation Army the ability to respond to the growing needs in communities all across northern Victoria.

Since 1965, The Salvation Army has run its annual Red Shield Appeal to raise funds to run its work across Australia. In the Bendigo region, The Salvation Army runs a number of programs including drug and alcohol abuse support, domestic violence, family breakdown assistance and providing emergency relief.

The Salvation Army raised over $255,000 across Northern Victoria during May for the Red Shield Neighbourhood Appeal.
